Dubai International Racing Carnival Programme
20. October 2009DUBAI, 20 October 2009 - January 28th 2010 is an important date, not just only for horse racing in the United Arab Emirates but for the sport worldwide. Meydan’s opening meeting and that of the seventh Dubai International Racing Carnival sees tradition pave the way for innovation as a new era is born. The inaugural racemeeting at Dubai’s iconic Meydan Racecourse opens with the seventh renewal of the Dubai International Racing Carnival, the highlight of which is the first round of the time-honoured Al Maktoum Challenge – one of the older pattern races on the UAE calendar.
The first round of the Al Maktoum Challenge was a race synonymous with the growth of Nad Al Sheba on the international racing stage and it provides is a fitting start to Meydan.
Dubai Racing Club CEO Mr Frank Gabriel Jr said: “In the seven years since the initial Dubai International Racing Carnival was staged, there have been many poignant moments, from spectacular victories and nail-biting near misses, to the revelation that plans had been put into place to build the ultimate horse racing venue.
Emirates Racing Authority Board member Mr Malih Lahej Al Basti concluded: “The 2010 DIRC is not only a highlight for the international racing community, but also a source of local pride with the opening of Meydan Racecourse.
“This state-of-the-art complex will not only complement the growing global appeal of Dubai as a racing destination, but also build on the indigenous passion for horses embedded in UAE culture”.
