Meydan City FEI European Championship Open 2009 Set to Take Centre Stage at Assisi, Italy
17. September 2009Meydan, the name behind the new luxury racing development, Meydan Grandstand and Racecourse in Dubai, UAE, has re-affirmed its support for one of the most important and globally recognised fixtures on the international Endurance racing calendar. Announced in May 2009, its namesake Meydan City FEI European Endurance Championship Open 2009 will take place on September 26 in Assisi, Italy.
A large contingent of participants consisting of over 100 riders from 26 nations are set to participate in the 160km ride, including those from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. These numbers, as well as its high profile patronage, highlight the calibre of this competition and the growing importance and profile of this discipline.
“This particular ride will be an exciting event with many leading riders in action, hoping to earn their place on the honour roll” said Mr. Mohammad Al Khayat, Meydan Group’s Commercial Director.
“It also marks our first foray onto the global Endurance racing stage, and we are confident this partnership will continue to re-affirm the camaraderie that exists between both our countries. The UAE and Italy have a longstanding association bound by our equine history and heritage and it is this connection that further strengthens our mutual support of each other and to the dedication we have to the sport of Endurance racing”.
Meydan Group will have a purpose-built exhibition booth at the Meydan City FEI European Endurance Championship Open 2009 venue, where promotional materials will be distributed and visitors will be able to meet with a Meydan representative who will be on hand to elaborate on Meydan and its four sub-districts; Meydan Racecourse, which is the first project to be launched in March 2010; Meydan Horizons, Meydan Metropolis and Meydan Godolphin Parks.
Meydan City FEI European Endurance Championship Open 2009
This is a CH - EU - E 4* Open ride that consists of six loops that wind along 160km of the Umbrian countryside.
Endurance is a discipline based on the bond between man and horse. It is a sport with a history emphasizing respect, care and preparation to conquer long distances in the shortest length of time, thereby creating an inseparable partnership built on devotion, tenacity and the love for challenge.
The European Endurance Championship Open takes place every two years, and involves - like its name suggests - European nations as well as countries around the world, after the decision of the FEI in 2001 to add "Open" in the event's title given the growing importance of the discipline. The last edition took place in Portugal with 88 riders from 20 different countries attending the event.
